Say good bye to the Tweed Coast

Posted by on September 7, 2013

Well today we leave the Tweed coast and Hastings point to continue our Adventure North. We have had a wonderful time here, made so much better by the family that visited us, but… now the Adventure begins. Who knows what the next leg will bring because we don’t have much of a plan beyond point North. We will aim for Rockhampton today and just see what happens.

Yesterday was a lazy day. Time to do a few chores and recharge the batteries after the Theme Parks. After a big breakfast cook up, the girls put a load of washing on the line while Mark and I headed to Tweed City for two new tyres and a replacement relay. The guys at SuperCheap were great and swapped the relay even though I didn’t have my receipt. Was a little easier fitting it this time too with an extra pair of hands (thanks Mark). Fingers crossed this one does the job and no more worrying about the freezer full of meat in the back of the car!

The rest of the day was pretty lazy. We had some lunch, followed by an ice-cream that Kelly bought for everyone. Then it was time to say our farewells to Kelly who was heading to Surfers Paradise to party with friends. We all gave her a big kiss and a hug. Been great having you with us Kelly (my fellow ride thrill seeker) and all the kids have loved it too. Especially Clare who I think has adopted you! She woke after her afternoon nap asking “Where’s Kelly?”

As Fi and Vicki drove Kelly up the coast, Mark and I took the kids for a swim. I had to see this water park for myself. It was pretty awesome having had a massive upgrade since we were here last. Water shooting out everywhere, and a massive bucket that filled every 6 minutes then dumped water everywhere. Felt like we were back at Wet n Wild! Only problem was the temperature of the water… freezing! Luckily the pool with the water slides was heated, so after being dumped on by the bucket we were able to warm back up again.

Only stayed there for about an hour. Zac took a tumble grazing his knees and hands (see that is why we say don’t run!), and Emma’s goggles were hurting her eyes, which was too much for the tired girl. Not only that I noticed that it was beer o’clock already, so we headed back to the caravan where Mark produced a cheese platter, and I think for the first time this trip, I actually did nothing but sit!

My lovely sister-in-law Kate put all the girls through the shower, which was then converted to a bath. Unfortunately, the drain couldn’t cope with the volume of water, and backwashed up the drain in the floor flooding the bathroom 🙁

Fi and Vicki got back after fighting the Friday peak hour on the Motorway just in time for a BBQ dinner and that was pretty much the end of our lazy day. The kids were all exhausted having not stopped for the last week, so I think they will enjoy a day of just sitting in the car today.

As we push off north, we must also farwell our final visitor as Granny Vicki is heading south again to Coffs to start her new adventure as a retiree. Thanks so much for sharing our holiday with us Vicki, we all loved having you along.

Anyhow, time for breakfast then I had better start packing this van… how the hell did we manage to spread ourselves so far again!!!

PS – just found some photos on Fi’s phone of the water park here at the caravan park, so I will add them below.
