Ballarat here we come!!!

Posted by on March 28, 2013

Actually we are already here!

That’s right this Easter rather than our standard Tidal River Wilson’s Prom trip we have decided to head somewhere different, and someone (can’t remember who) managed to find us a couple of spots at the Windmill Big 4 on the outskirts of Ballarat.

Part of the reason why we we didn’t go to the Prom was Fi has to work Friday night and Monday arvo, and the Prom is a 3 hour drive each way, where as Ballarat is only an hour and a half. The other reason is we have lucked out with the weather the last few years (read about last years trip!!!) and after checking the weather for the Prom I am glad we didn’t go there…. cold and windy again!!!

Ballarat on the other hand is simply just cold, but at least we can always throw a blanket over our legs like the old fogies we are…hehehe.

Anyway, Mark and Kate had the day off work today and were able to get away once the kids finished school just after 3pm, whereas Fi and I had to work, so we didn’t get away until about 4:30pm. Straight into good old peak hour.

Was a crawl through the tunnel and over the West Gate onto the Western Hwy… took us the best part of on hour to get out of Melbourne!

We had a brief stop at Maccas on the road for dinner before heading onto Ballarat.

Was just coming into Ballarat when Tara started talking to her iPod (yes was the girls birthday yesterday) as if she was on the phone. Fi and I were in the front laughing and thinking how cute it was, when after a few minutes we said “Gee is really does sound like she is talking to someone!!”

Fi asked Tara “Who are you talking to Tara?”

“Nana and Grandpa” replied Tara.

Fi said “what are you just pretending?”

“No” said Tara, “I am really talking to them!” Fi and I looked at each other when Tara showed us her iPod “See…”

As it turned out she really was!!

I had let the kids connect to the internet through my iPad in the car on the way down, so Tara had decided to facetime someone and Grandpa answered!!!

Stunned Fi and I….. hilarious!

Anyway, got here just after 7:30 and Mark helped me to setup the van while Fi did it hard having a cuppa and keeping Kate company!!

Will be a quiet day tomorrow around the park while Fi heads off about lunchtime so she can be back for work. She will return Saturday morning (if she gets out of bed…) and we will probably spend the day at Kryal castle.

Should be a good weekend away 🙂
