A quick trip to Violet Town

Posted by on August 26, 2014

OK ok, I know you’re waiting for the latest update on Violet town (Mum & Dad), so here it is..

Was a quick trip this time round, Fiona was off on a Girls weekend with her school friends, re-living and reminiscing their youth 20 years on, so Zac, Tara, Jess and I decided to head back up to Little Duna for a night. We left Saturday morning after dropping Fi at Bridget’s house and headed North, arriving just after lunch.

The good news was my work on the driveway the week before had paid off and while still a bit bumpy, the road was in good condition for driving with little sign of the boggy mess that was there before. Will only take a quick run over with the bobcat to finish levelling it ready for laying the gravel.

We setup our camp, and it wasn’t long before we were joined by Mark, Kris and her friend Mel. Mark had offered to bring up the trailer of carpet for me so I could tow my van, and they all crashed in the guest house for a night.

The afternoon was spent riding the quad bike and relaxing in the sun which was absolutely beautiful, although as the sun disappeared behind the trees, the temperature quickly dropped and we had to get a good fire going to chase away the chills.

Dinner that night was a quick trip to the bistro at the Violet Town pub which serves a great meal, then it was back to Little Duna to burn some wood and enjoy some beverages 😉

In the morning, Mark and the girls had to be back on the road by 9am (before the kids even woke!) as they had to be back in Melbourne for Clare’s birthday party that afternoon.

We took a slower approach to packing, not leaving until about 12:30pm.

Not able to do much with the carpet I simply dumped it beside the road in the places it is most needed. That will be my first job when I return Thursday with a bobcat and get the gravel delivered, I’ll lay the carpet and then load the gravel on top in an attempt to stop it disappearing into the ground.

I left our caravan up there so I can have at least a little luxury when I return, so the kids and I packed everything we needed (along with the dogs of course) into the car and headed home.

As I said, was a quick trip and only as few days until I get back there. This time I’ll try to take a few more pictures!!!

Oh and I rang the builder yesterday and told them what I had done, Wendy from Ranbuild rang back that afternoon and advised that Giovanni will be back out there Wednesday next week to finish laying the slab!!! YAY!!!!

Finally the shed build is underway again… who knows, may even be ready for school holidays late September.
