Boating and snorkelling adventures

Posted by on September 10, 2013

Well today we headed out on a catamaran charter to Great Keppell Island. It saw an early start with the boat leaving at 8.30 ( poor Fiona had to be up early!!!)

It was a beautiful days after some serious sideways rain last night/this morning.

Kate was all prepared with Kwells but we were unsure if any of the kids got her motion sickness. Good news, only 1 of 3 got it – poor Emma was green in the gills and as we arrived at the beach was vomiting over the front.

Once the boat stopped and she was empty she cheered up. All the girls jumped in for a snorkel on the reef on their noodles. However the water wad fresh and when they heard the dinghy was heading to the beach, they were all out and off to shore.

This proved good fun with digging holes, collecting shells and finding coral. Only problem is that all the coral had to go back as it is protected, oh well.

Snorkelling was average with minimal to see really. Some grey nomad neighbours have
recommended Harvey Reef out of Airlie Beach as being awesome. Hope go make it there.

Then we stopped at the old resort on Great Keppell which is still closed but apparently works are expected soon to redevelop it. Apparently Peter Garrett as environment minister poo pooed it without reading it. We found Jaws washed up on the beach

For the trip back Emma was Kwelled up but while worked a bit i think she was tired and over it. As the wind had picked up, we got to sail back most of the way. It was very peaceful with the motors off and Fiona and Tara may have fallen asleep

The food was great on board and Anthony & Vicki as hosts were friendly and helpful.

Back in the park now Emma is asleep, and it is almost time for the others to go to sleep! First beers (and tea for the girls) down.

Here some other pictures….
