The stress of going on Holidays

Posted by on August 30, 2013

Who would have thought going on Holidays was so stressful??

Started badly as I left work Wednesday night, was almost home when I saw a car crash right in front of me! Lady was turning and a young P plater ran the red, totalling her car, spinning it 180 degrees! Was horrible as I could see the whole thing happening. I had no choice but to stop to make sure everyone was ok. I had to call the police and then hang around to give a statement. Anyway, no one was badly hurt, a little bruised and their cars had to be towed away, but it could have been much worse. I was late to our family farewell dinner, but at least I still had a car to drive (would have been a short holiday otherwise!).

Was Thursday morning when the stress really started, woke to Oh my God I have a lot to do! Spent a good part of the day shopping, packing and preparing.

Was a little stressed as I had not been able to get hold of the guy that was going to look after Ruby (the dog), and I was starting to think I would have to rush Ruby off to the kennel. Had tried multiple times to call him and all I got was a message that the phone was switched off or unavailable šŸ™ In the end I managed to get hold of him via email… his phone had got wet and wasn’t working! Arranged with him to drop Ruby off at his house after 6pm which was in itself a hassle as that meant I couldn’t finish packing the car. Other issue was he lived on the other side of town, so I spent 1.5 hours fighting peak hour to get there.

This guy had 3 other dogs, and of course Ruby was in their territory, so was a little bit of a worry there for a while until Ruby established her spot in the pack. I’m sure they will work it out, but hopefully Ruby doesn’t lose an eye or ear in the process!

Got home from dropping Ruby at about 8pm, and spent a mad couple of hours doing the final packing so we could get to bed early enough to get a few zzz’s.

What a stress!!

Anyhow, we are away šŸ™‚

Left at 3:17am this morning to a strong northerly head wind (didn’t help the fuel economy much!) and a light drizzle that got pretty heavy as we came over the Great Divide. Luckily the rain eased and it was a pretty uneventful trip. At the moment we are in a town called Finley for a quick bite to eat and to let everyone stretch their legs.

I’ll let Fi fill you in on the rest… but be warned someone is a little grumpy at being woken at 2am…. not looking at anyone Fi :p

Until later….

….Yay the trip has begun!
