Happy Easter

Posted by on March 31, 2013

Happy Easter everyone… may your day be filled with chocolate delights!!

I know ours will be… the kids have already woken and made a good start on their annual chocolate breakfast…. suppose we will have to try to get them some normal food at some stage!!

Is a cold and wet morning in Ballarat which is a real shame because the caravan park is putting on a Easter Egg Hunt for the kids… all kids are required to head to the Recreation room while the staff hide over 2500 eggs around the park!!! Going to be some very wet eggs, but at least they won’t melt!!

Anyway, enough about today I hear you say… what happened yesterday??? Well, we had an adventure at Castle Kyral.

Was a slowish start to the day as I had spent the morning sorting out the disaster at work, so it was close to 1pm by the time we arrived at Kyral castle. The kids were all very excited as they were greeted by a moving Dragon just inside the castle gates.

We started the journey through the underground passages watching the animated tale of how Kyral castle came to be. Would have been a really good show if it wasn’t for the grumpy old tourists in front of us who pretty much stood right in front of the show so the kids couldn’t see or hear what was going on!!! Some people are simply rude and not considerate of others!

Anyway, after talking to the Ghosts of the King of Kyral Castle and the dragon deep within the caverns below the castle we emerged into the castle courtyard where the kids all had a go at pulling excalibur from the stone… unfortunately no new kings or queens to report in the family 🙁

Next stop was the dungeons and the torture rooms. Was a sign warning that children under 12, or those with a weak heart shouldn’t proceed, and while Zac was very brave, he opted for no nightmares that night, and only had a look in the first room before Mark and I descended the dark steep stairs into the dungeons. Wasn’t that scary, although there was a lot of groaning and moaning from the dungeon guests… oh and the sounds of Mark and I laughing as the poor women in front of us who had decided to go it alone nearly crapped her dacks around every turn!!! Was very entertaining!!!! LOL!

We then headed to court to see where the King meets with his knights sitting at the round table, and of course the throne room where the kids all got to sit on the throne… shh don’t tell the king or it will be back to the dungeons for them!!

Next stop was the castle courtyard again for some Jousting. Was somewhat impressive as the two knights thundered along on their warhorses and the crash as their lances splintered on each others shields.

Was a real surprise, but it was the knight of Castle Kyral who won the day (I know I never saw it coming either…) 3 lances to 2 against the visiting knight.

All that jousting was hungry work, so we headed to the Castle bakery for a feed. That was were we got to spend about an hour standing in a queue with 6 hungry and screaming kids… was very exciting as I’m sure you could imagine… and if you can’t… yes I am being sarcastic…. was horrible!!!

I did hear one of the staff telling another customer that today was busier than the re-opening day!!! Guess all that Radio advertising really does work!

Anyway, with full bellies we headed off once again to explore the castle. First stop… the torture room again… hehe… I just had to take Fi and Kate through!! While they were very brave (and I use that term very loosely) I’m not sure what was scaring them more… the sounds of the dark dungeon and the scenes of torture, or the fact I was walking behind them and they were sure I was going to jump out an scare them… while I’ll admit it did take a lot of will power not to use such a well presented opportunity, I was strong and just let their own fear do all the work. I wasn’t disappointed as they ran screaming from them dungeon… hehe… yes I can be evil!!!

I guess from there I had no choice but to lock the two screaming wenches (man am I in trouble when they read this) in the stocks while I went to gather the rest of the family.

Of course then everyone had to get locked in as well!

We stopped by the medieval costume shop, and the lolly shop to spend some more money before all getting lost in the labyrinth of a maze. With 5 foot walls, it was very funny to see two heads (fi and Kate) bobbing along, while the kids were all simply lost. Tara started to lose it at the end as she came across dead end after dead end… I suppose it would be scary when the walls are way taller then you are!!

We made it in the end, don’t think we left any behind and that was the end of our medieval adventure. The kids all had a ball and were not at all happy when we emerged out of the castle gates, with Jess trying to run back inside. I think she loves that stuff!

Not much to report for the rest of yesterday, the rain continued to drizzle, so we watched movies under the annex while the girls went to the recreation room to watch Brave on the big screen.

I really hope the rain does ease or it is going to be a terrible easter again locked in the caravan all day with 6 screaming kids!

Let’s see how the day pans out 😉

PS Will try to get everyone else to upload some more photos later.
